Strainers are used to remove solid particles, debris, and contaminants from liquids and gases in piping and process systems. In chemical and industrial environments, strainers are often exposed to corrosive media, making thermoplastic and composite construction essential for reliable and long-term operation.
Thermoplastic strainers help protect downstream equipment such as
pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and reactors by preventing clogging, erosion, and damage caused by unwanted particles.
Strainers are fabricated using materials selected based on process fluid, temperature, pressure, and chemical compatibility.
PP (Polypropylene Copolymer) : Used for general-purpose filtration of mildly corrosive fluids. Suitable for ambient to moderate temperatures up to 80–90°C.
PPH (Polypropylene Homopolymer) : Offers higher rigidity and chemical resistance. Commonly used in chemical process strainers operating up to 90–100°C.
PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) : Preferred for highly corrosive chemicals and aggressive fluids. Provides stable performance up to 120–150°C, depending on design.
HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) : Used for low-pressure filtration and moisture-rich applications. Suitable for ambient temperature operation up to 60–70°C.
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) : Applied in low-temperature filtration systems. Performs reliably up to 60°C.
FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) : Provides additional structural strength and corrosion resistance. Suitable for ambient to moderate temperatures, depending on resin system.
PP–FRP Lined Construction : Combines polypropylene’s chemical resistance with FRP’s structural strength. Used for medium-duty filtration applications.
HDPE–FRP Lined Construction : Provides abrasion resistance with enhanced stiffness. Suitable for ambient temperature service.
MS–FRP Lined Construction : Used where higher mechanical strength is required. Mild steel provides support, while FRP lining protects against corrosion in ambient service conditions.
