Scrubbers are used to remove harmful gases, fumes, vapors, and particulates from industrial exhaust streams before release into the atmosphere. In chemical and process industries, scrubbers are exposed to highly corrosive media, making thermoplastic and composite construction essential for long-term reliability.
Thermoplastic scrubbers provide excellent resistance to chemical attack, moisture, and scaling, ensuring stable performance and reduced maintenance compared to conventional metal scrubbers.
Scrubbers are fabricated using materials selected based on gas composition, scrubbing liquid, temperature, and system size.
PP (Polypropylene Copolymer) : Used for general gas scrubbing with mildly corrosive media. Suitable for ambient to moderate temperatures up to 80–90°C.
PPH (Polypropylene Homopolymer) : Offers higher rigidity and chemical resistance. Commonly used in chemical scrubbers operating up to 90–100°C.
PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) : Preferred for highly corrosive gases and aggressive chemical environments. Provides reliable performance up to 120–150°C, depending on design.
HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) : Used for moisture-rich and low-pressure scrubbing applications. Suitable for ambient temperature operation up to 60–70°C.
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) : Applied in low-temperature scrubbing and ventilation systems. Performs reliably up to 60°C.
FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) : Provides structural strength and corrosion resistance. Suitable for ambient to moderate temperatures, depending on resin system.
PP–FRP Lined Construction : Combines polypropylene’s chemical resistance with FRP’s mechanical strength. Used for medium to large scrubbers operating at moderate temperatures.
HDPE–FRP Lined Construction : Offers abrasion resistance with improved rigidity. Suitable for ambient temperature scrubbing applications.
MS–FRP Lined Construction : Used where high structural strength is required. Mild steel provides support, while FRP lining protects against corrosion in ambient service conditions.
